If you’re having issues with your microphone, these tips can help you troubleshoot.

Enable microphone and camera access on macOS Mojave or later

On computers using macOS Mojave version 10.14 or later, you must allow microphone access for Google Chrome or Forum. Check your operating system permissions to confirm that microphone access has been enabled.

Enable microphone and camera access on Windows 10 or later

On computers using Windows 10 or later, you must allow microphone access for Google Chrome or forum. Check your app permissions to confirm that microphone access has been enabled.

Allow Chrome to access your microphone and camera

When using Google Chrome, site permissions to use your microphone and camera must be set to “Allow”. Check your Chrome site permissions to confirm access has been allowed.

Troubleshoot more

If your microphone still isn’t working, try these tips:

  • Unplug and reconnect your headset or microphone. This sometimes helps if the plug isn’t properly situated.

  • Connect to a different microphone, headset, or your built-in microphone. This indicates if the issue is limited to a particular microphone.

  • Close unnecessary applications and Chrome tabs. A microphone may not work properly if it’s currently being used by another application.

  • Check if your microphone is working in other apps and websites. That will help us determine if the problem is specific to Forum.

  • Restart your Google Chrome browser, and, if that doesn’t work, restart your computer.

  • If you have an external mic, check if your mic is muted. Some external mics (e.g. connected via USB) have a mute button.

  • If you have not already, test your microphone through our AV check.

  • If Push to Talk is enabled, make sure that you're pressing the CTRL key while speaking.

  • If Push to Talk is not enabled, make sure that you're speaking loud enough for the mic to pick up your voice.
