Holidays in Forum

Forum has the ability to include holidays in the class schedule. This helps to avoid classes falling on days they should not during the term.

Note: Only users with an Administrator role can add or delete holidays to a term. If you are not an admin, please reach out to your program manager before reading further.

How do Holidays Work?

When holiday dates are added to Forum, any class meetings (and the associated lesson plans) that were scheduled for those dates will be shifted to the next available meeting time. Likewise, when a holiday is deleted, classes will be added back to the calendar and lesson plans will shift backwards.

While class meetings will be skipped, assignments can still be due on holidays. If you need to update the assignment due date, you can do so by changing the due date in either Course Builder (see this article) or Forum (see this article).

To view existing Holidays and make any changes, navigate to the Term Info page.

Adding a Holiday

To add a holiday:

  • Go to the calendar on the right side of the Term Info page.

  • Select the date on which you wish to add a holiday, then click the Add Holiday link.

  • A reminder will explain how the class meeting schedule will change, press Save to confirm the creation of your holiday.

  • Repeat the process for each day that you’d like to add a holiday.

The screenshot below depicts adding a holiday to April 25.

Deleting a Holiday

To delete a holiday:

  • Go to the calendar on the right side of the Term Info page.

  • Select the date from which you wish to remove a holiday

  • Click Delete Holiday.

  • A reminder will explain how the class meeting schedule will change. Press Save to confirm the deletion of your holiday.

You may repeat the process for each day that you’d like to delete a holiday.
